No matter what city you are in, young professionals are keen to be a part of the arts and culture scene. In cosmopolitan urban centres throughout the world, museums and art galleries serve as focal points for cultural engagement, fostering creativity, learning opportunities and space for dialogue about contemporary ideas and issues. Calgary is no different.
Lucky for us, there is Pivot, an initiative by the Glenbow Museum geared towards young professionals that unites Calgary’s next generation of influencers and leaders for a fresh take on arts and culture in our city. Its primary role is to provide opportunities to encounter the arts, ignite conversation and get connected.
Launched in January 2011, Pivot has already grown to nearly 100 active members, creating a dynamic group of individuals who share a vision for a thriving, active inner city, with Glenbow serving as an important gathering place at its core.
Through a variety of activities and events, members enjoy a dynamic range of exclusive opportunities with curatorial tours, artist studio visits, behind-the-scenes experiences, insight into developing an art collection and a chance to encounter and connect with the important voices and influencers in art and culture. Members participate in and support the art and cultural programs at Glenbow Museum and within the larger artistic community in Calgary. Curious what events Pivot got up to this past year? Check out their blog here, and follow them on Twitter.
Not only do members gain access to exclusive Pivot events and activities, museum membership and reciprocal access and membership to a variety of museums and galleries across North America, they also support Glenbow’s In Residence program.
