Out Like a Light: These New Lightbulbs Will Help You Sleep Better

Nothing says get ‘back into bed’ quite like waking up without sunshine.

In order to make our mornings more enjoyable, Philips has recently announced its new lightbulb, the Philips Hue White Ambiance. This new bulb will bring every shade of white light into your home, which can make falling asleep and waking up that much easier, reports the Verge.

You’ll be able to put all your lights on warm yellow mode during the evening for a more relaxing ambiance, and bright white light mode in the morning.

If you use the White Ambiance bulbs with the Philips Hue app, you can use a new feature called ‘Routines’, which can adjust the colour temperature of the bulbs as the day progresses. You can even customize the settings and pre-set white light levels that increase in the morning, similar to the sun rising. The lights will in turn gradually dim in the evening, promoting a more peaceful sleep.

There’s also a new light recipe called ‘Nightlife’, which benefits those who are up often in the night. The Nightlife feature provides low-level light that’s effective enough to see but without using the blue light component that would disturb normal sleep cycles.

The Philips Hue White Ambience Kit is set to go on sale this spring, which will contain two white ambiance bulbs, a dimmer switch, and a bridge that supports Apple HomeKit, meaning you can control your lighting using Siri.

Pricing has yet to be announced, but you expect them to fall somewhere between the basic $15 Philips Hue White E27 bulbs and the $60 Philips Hue A19 bulbs, which are capable of producing 16 million different colours.
