Ontario Union Head Says Marijuana Should Only Be Sold By the LCBO

According to the head of the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU), felicitously named Warren (Smokey) Thomas, one entity should govern all of our vices.

Liquor stores do have cash registers and ample space for people to form lines, so it is true, I suppose.

“There would not be any need to reinvent the wheel,” Thomas told CBC News. Indeed.

“For one thing they have the social responsibility part covered — they do age checks, they do refusals if somebody’s intoxicated,” he added. This logic doesn’t take into account the ability for anyone who’s capable of asking “can I see some I.D.” to do age checks. Having authority to deny cannabis to the already stoned, which makes little sense and, again, literally anyone can do, also seems like a thin argument for turning what should be a private endeavour into a monopolized business.

Thomas also said that adding marijuana to LCBO shelves would probably improve job security, but he doubts it would create extra jobs. Extra jobs would, of course, be created by not adding marijuana to LCBO shelves.

Still a better alternative to The Weed Store I guess.
