A great fine dining experience is, in our humble opinion, a weekly must. But for YPs, a place with great food sans the pretensions is just as important. That’s where Muse Restaurant and Lounge comes in. (Cue heaven chords.) Located just north of the river in Kensington (107 – 10A Street NW), Muse is everything you would expect in a top restaurant…and that includes a vibe that is at once inviting and relaxing. Of course, it doesn’t hurt that it has been the recipient of multiple awards, including Most Romantic spot in YYC.
The moment you walk through the door you are whisked away by the whimsy of the interior. With soft lighting and warm tones of beige, magenta and cherry wood, and a playful yet subtle circus motif, it’s the perfect backdrop for any occasion really – a birthday, first date, celebratory meal…Tuesday night.
The space boasts a unique atrium style with several dining levels including a special eight to ten person chef’s table and a comfortable full service lounge and bar area. We definitely recommend the chef’s table if you are looking to celebrate a milestone – very homey feeling.
Of course the real treat is the food. Offering French and Canadian cuisine with a modern twist, your mouth will be salivating as soon as you peruse the menu. Not to worry though, as you decide on your meal you can nibble on the complementary gourmet popcorn with white truffle oil, sea salt and cracked pepper…a culinary delight in and of itself!
The kitchen’s philosophy is one of using the freshest local and regional ingredients, such as organic meats and produce. Close relationships with local farmers and growers gives Muse Restaurant the opportunity to hand pick all the ingredients and supplies that go into every dish. The entire menu is phenomenal, but we recommend you order the truffled beef and avocado tartare (smoked tenderloin emince and grana padano cheese crackers), just to start, of course.
Muse also offers a multi-course tasting menu. Always an adventure, the ingredients used change on a daily and seasonal basis. This means you get to indulge in one-of-a-kind dishes created by the talented chef.
The wine list is also bound to delight. Much thought has been put into the list of over 100 bottles from around the world. Ask the knowledgeable staff to help you pair the perfect bottle(s) with your meal – or choose blind like we enjoy sometimes. (Hey, it’s always good to get out of your comfort zone a little.)
Whether it is a romantic dinner for two or a large private event, Muse can accommodate. It’s a favourite spot for many, so we do suggest making a reservation in advance even if it’s a small group you plan to dine with.
