On Our Radar: Whistler Ski and Snowboard Festival

One of the largest outdoor winter sports and music festivals of its kind in North America, the WSSF is geared up to celebrate in true West Coast style.

Catch live acts such as King of Diamonds, Mat the Alien, Rusko and plenty others that will be performing around the Village at various locations – guaranteed to get you dancing.

Take in the Olympus 72 Hour Filmmaker Showdown and Pro Photographer Showdown, plus encore screening. All are festival favorites that see globally-recognized filmmakers and photographers capture the essence of the festival and what is quintessentially the Whistler lifestyle. Shortlisted finalists are set to present their finished work to a packed house and are up for some big swag (cash) prizes.

Add a little powder fix to the list by hitting up the 15th Annual Shred Show. On Saturday, April 12th, the night will be alive as one of WSSF’s largest events featuring top-notch talent draws the biggest crowds and the most energy to witness the world’s best snowboarders compete on a huge 70-foot table jump for $25,000 in prize money.

You won’t want to miss the Mountain Multiplicity Show that is set to start this weekend. It features new presentations by some of the best storytellers of Whistler Blackcomb. This underrated event adds a dose of adrenaline and scoop of comedy to the WSSF party scene. Featuring eight unique presentations brought to life by storytellers and adventurers in the mountain kingdom, it is a multimedia extravaganza designed to resonate as much as it entertains.

YPs definitely do not want to miss the final weekend’s best (and quietest) party set to take off at the Garibaldi Lift Company (GLC). Yup, that’s right, a pure, silent, party in your head courtesy of the Silent Disco. It all goes down on April 18th and features duelling DJs (DJ Dakota, DJ Foxy Moron, DJ Canosis) who’ll be streaming their beats and vieing for your ear attention courtesy of a plethora of channels available to guests (and headphones they’ll be sporting upon arrival). Oh, lest we forget to note, it is likely one of the best parties at WSSF.

Walk the weekend’s excessive fun off for a fantastic cause to benefit The Howe Sound Women’s Centre Society ‘Walk A Mile In Her Shoes’ event that is set to be held on Sunday, April 20th starting at Mogul’s in the heart of the Village (not too bad a stumble). The event is part of the international movement of men’s marches aimed at raising awareness of the issue of gender violence. Participants collect pledges from family and friends to support their effort to walk through Whistler Village in women’s high heel shoes. All proceeds go to support Howe Sound Women’s Centre Society programs. Last-minute planners can start fundraising efforts during après or at Buffalo Bill’s the night prior.
