On Our Radar: Toronto’s Panorama Lounge is Finally Being Reinvented

Remember back when Panorama Lounge was the ultimate date night location or event venue, thanks to its sexy vibe and stunning views of the city?

No? Well, you’re too young and you need more life experience.

Anyhow, somewhere along the way, this destination hotspot sort of disappeared from the radar of most downtown dwelling young professionals.

Well, guess what? Views like that don’t simply vanish.

So while the Panorama you know is no longer – after closing for renovations on February 15th – the sprawling space on the 51st floor of the Manulife Centre will reopen mid-March as The One Eighty.

Owned by Eatertainment, the LA-inspired culinary and celebratory destination promises to bring a unique experience to dining that’s unlike anything else in Canada. Apparently, the key words are fun, artistic, and interactive.

Interactive tableside service is designed to “charm guests,” with personable servers to visit tables between courses to offer exclusive gastronomic items and specialty cocktails from stylish bar-carts. Some of the popular house cocktails will be served bottled for a pop-art touch.

As for the dishes, expect artsy and innovative.

The One Eighty name refers to the amazing north/south views of the city, but also the approach to the menu. Eatertainment’s executive chef Christopher Matthews’ culinary creations are inspired by art and architectural design, and the menu features fresh, unique takes on recognizable comfort dishes from culinary cultures around the world.

Think appetizers like duck confit hash with rapini, or lobster gratin with kettle chips and lemony pea shoots. Mains mean things like buttermilk fried chicken and waffles with chipotle honey; rosemary spatchcock Cornish hen with zucchini tagliatelle; green pea risotto with edamame and pickled beets; and house made white pizza flatbread with prosciutto and smoked provolone.

The unique daily snack-cart offerings (not found on the everyday menu), will range from saffron arancini with pepper sauce, to sweet and sour tofu with organic watercress, and Taiwanese popcorn chicken with sweet chili sauce.

Dessert includes goodness like the molten chocolate macaron with vanilla bean ice cream; the chocolate peanut butter tart; or the creamsicle panna cotta.

Hungry yet?

If you go for dinner, you can also move on to the bar area – complete with a 14-seat Caesarstone showpiece M-bar and built-in DJ station.

Perhaps one of the best parts (especially when entertaining out-of-towners this summer) will be the north and south patios, which span 1,500 sq. ft., and will now feature seamless glass panels for unobstructed views of the city and some sweet Instagram material.

Meanwhile, the 3,000 sq. ft. interior accommodates over 90 guests for sit-down dining and up to 250 guests for cocktail receptions and events.

Engagement party, anyone?
