The Medieval-themed Storm Crow Tavern is a Notable newcomer to the Commercial Drive dining scene, having quietly opened their doors a week or so ago.
With spacious seating available, this self-professed ‘Olde Taverne’ comes with a geek-friendly twist and fills up quickly with an array of characters. Don’t be surprised to see a patron or two deeply involved in a game of Catan or Chess when you stop by. Not to worry all you hockey or football fans out there, The Storm Crow has a few large screens to watch the latest games once the seasons are underway – and we think this tavern will make a great spot to hole up for a while.
Nicely-aged dark wood chairs and tables are accented throughout the space by similar coloured tudor-style framing and stucco-like white walls. The details are in the decor of this space, and it’s rustic and simple – with a certain ‘Game of Thrones’ feel to it. We noted a great collection of medieval swords, battle axes, old-fashioned maps and shields adorning the walls when we popped by. Not without a sense of humour, the owners have also added a Sci-Fi touch here and there by adding a few ray guns to the mix – much to the appeasement of young professionals who harbour a hankering for old-school Spock alongside their pint of craft brew.
Speaking of drinks, they’ve got a great selection of local and import beer available (on tap and by bottle), cocktails and a tight wine list. The menu boasts a healthy selection of soups (love the onion), hearty stews (barley beef is a must), appetizers, salads (go for the beet), sandwiches and hearty mains such as Mac & Cheese, Ratatouille and a tasty vegan-style Shepherd’s Pie guaranteed to please.
Go check this unique spin on what we think will become a favourite go-to spot out for yourself. You’ll find The Storm Crow Tavern located at 1305 Commercial Drive.
