On Our Radar: The Citizen

The Brant House has closed its doors, but don’t worry, the space won’t be empty long. The Citizen, a new resto-bar inspired by favourite local haunts of the 1930s, will soon be opening its doors to the delight of anyone who’s ever spent time on King West.

Behind Executive Chef Amanda Walti (former Chef de Cuisine at Origin) they’ll be serving up North American comfort food in an atmosphere that steers clear of the sort of pretension often associated with this strip. Instead, you’ll find an inviting and laid-back ambience accompanying mains such as mac ‘n cheese with pork belly, fried whole chicken (including the skin and livers), and a 36oz rib-eye steak. Fun snack options like jalapeno poppers, popcorn shrimp, grilled cheese, and saucy meatballs will help round out the menu.

A cocktail list that promises “various innovative takes on the Manhattan” and a selection of bar bites that run well into the wee hours makes The Citizen sound like a strong option no matter what time of night you feel like getting comfortable. Stay tuned for more info.
