On Our Radar: Prohibition Brewing Co. Opens Tasting Bar in Yaletown

Alongside so many new craft beer establishments that have consistently popped up around the city, Prohibition Tasting Bar is sure to become a quick hit among thirsty young professionals in search of hot new spots to head to for a post-work bevy.

Originally based in Kelowna, Prohibition Brewing Company still makes its sought-after beer at their Okanagan-based distillery, shipping it down to various establishments in and around the city. Their new Yaletown-based tasting room helps keep things a little closer to home for the company. Located in one of Yaletown’s historic brick buildings, the bar resonates a timeless, cozy-yet-rustic feel we definitely warmed up to (or maybe that was the plush velvet seating).

With a selection of five different beers currently on tap (with more seasonal options to come), satisfy your curiosity and thirst as you sip through the tasting menu. The tasting bar features their Bootlegger Amber Ale, Getaway Lager, Hideout Honey Lager, Smuggler Scotch Ale and Lawless IPA (available individually or via four glass flight). If you’re not a beer fanatic, they’ve also got several wines available by the glass as well as a tasteful selection of cocktails that will satisfy.

Hungry? Don’t worry, the tasting bar also features an assortment of small share plates perfect to keep you satiated. Try their sweet and salty beer brittle, jerky baron cone, beer nuts and buttermilk biscuits for starters. Don’t forego an order of their mouthwatering Chicago-style kielbasas (served on a freshly baked poppyseed bun), poutine (with ale gravy), mussels, Carpaccio, pretzel knots or harcuterie boards (loaded with locally sourced offerings).
