On Our Radar: motionball Marathon of Sport Comes to Vancouver

It all goes down at Electronic Arts’ Sports Field in Burnaby with 10 teams of participants joined by a Special Olympics athlete for a day of friendly competition. They’ll be pitted against other teams as they vie for bragging rights (and the win) playing soccer, beach volleyball, basketball, bocce, ultimate Frisbee and, new for this year, ladder golf.

On June 7th, the Marathon of Sport (MOS) aims to gather up the next generation of Vancouver’s athletes to introduce them to the world (and benefits) of Special Olympics through integrated social and sporting events alike.

That’s a huge undertaking we as young professionals have a lot of respect for, especially given motionball is a 100% volunteer-driven non-profit organization comprised of 300 volunteers in eight chapters across Canada. Their objective: work tirelessly to donate $1 million annually.

Yup, definitely worth noting.

Participants will have the unique opportunity to work up a sweat alongside the athletes themselves and get an insider scoop on what it means to be a part of the Canadian Special Olympics team. To sweeten the deal, teams will also score a chance to win EA Games prize packs and plenty of other incentives throughout the day.
