Ocean Wise Seafood Chowder Chowdown

Ten of Toronto’s top chefs will battle it out to be the Ocean Wise Seafood Chowder Champion of 2011 at this year’s Ocean Wise Chowder Chowdown.

Chowder, a delicious hybrid of soup and stew combined with mouthwatering seafood, is for some, the perfect meal. Hearty and warming, chowder is often rich and provides array to choose from since there are few static ingredients to create a delicious bowl of, as the French say, ‘shaudere’. (Or at least that’s what pop culture leads us to believe, anyway… thanks Simpsons.)

Held this Wednesday by Vancouver Aquarium’s Ocean Wise program, a non-profit association dedicated to affecting the conservation of aquatic life, guests are invited to indulge in 10 original chowders paired with local beers, all in support of sustainable seafood across Canada.

Although there will be a celebrity judging panel of distinguished judges including Chef Marc St. Jacques (Auberge du Pommier) and Micah Donovan (Food Network’s The Food Jammers), guests will get to vote for the People’s Choice Award winner.

The contestants cooking for guests at the event include Timothy Palmer (EPIC Restaurant), Martin Kouprie and Derek Bendig (Pangaea Restaurant), Ted Corrado (C5 Restaurant), Andrea Nicholson-Jack (Killer Condiments), Morgan Wilson (Trios Bistro), Shawn Hartwell (Simple Fish Company), Shabbir Chowdhury (Mill Street Brew Pub), Kristin Donovan (Hooked Inc.), David Friedman (FishBar), and Shaun Edmonstone (Bruce Wine Bar). We recommend gorging at this delicious way to fight the fall blues.
