Now Open: Old School Emporium

Old School Emporium opened its doors recently on 17 Avenue. Located in the heart of the city (115 – 880 16 Ave SW), they bring Calgary’s urban community enjoyable and equality foods like local fresh fruits and vegetables, and meats free from antibiotics and hormones. You know, the ‘old school’ way.

They are making good food accessible to Calgary’s urban YPs with a simple concept –good food for real people; and owner’s Evan and Heather Mounsey know what they are doing. They have backgrounds in the food industry, and nutrition & fitness (respectively), along with a passion for food that is not only good tasting, but good for you.

They believe your decision to walk, cycle or drive shouldn’t affect your access to farm fresh goodness in downtown Calgary. With that in mind, this boutique shop is literally around the corner for those who live in the Beltline.

The shelves are stocked with products from local farmers and ranchers, including organic milk, ice cream and yogurt from Avalon Dairy, hormone free meats from Big Band Ranches, and baked goods from local bakers Double Elle and Itza Bakeshop.

Looking for inspiration on what to prepare for dinner? Every week they will be posting a new recipe on their Facebook page that utilizes fresh ingredients that are carried in the store. On weekends they will also have samples to try. Who doesn’t want to shop and have a taste of what is offered?

Pop in and check out their edible delights and wondrous wares. While in, we also suggest getting a few pieces of salt water taffy. It’s hard to miss the shelves behind the till lined with glass jars of these delicious little treats.

Follow them on Twitter and Facebook to keep informed on the latest products and events.
