The Big Taste is the annual foodie affair.
During this festival, the city’s most creative in culinary and hospitality celebrate with a week’s worth of prix-fix tasting menus, five course gourmet dinners, and brand new happy hours.
So if you’re wondering why you should attend, the answer is easy: it’s all about pleasing your palate.
From this Friday, March 6th until the 15th, anyone looking to indulge will have access to 100+ menus. And with a spotlight on British Columbia VQA wines, you can experience Okanagan wine country in the middle of winter. Always a bonus.
With so many appetizing options, it’s hard to know where to start, but we have a few cool recommendations on where to go when hunger and thirst comes calling.

Get in the European Groove
Nothing says date night like tapas.
Diners craving Mediterranean fare have several options including Bridgeland’s hit restaurant Black Pig Bistro, 17th Avenue’s popular Ox and Angela, and the newer Barcelona Tavern, located downtown.
Vegetables Just Won’t Do
If protein is on the agenda, the Trib Steakhouse is the place to make reservations to get your fill of reserve Angus steak. And everyone knows that when it comes to trying more adventurous cuts of meat, Charcut never disappoints.
Looking for an intimate and unassuming vibe with a side of brown liquor? Then make sure they stop by Taste. With a creative selection of charcuterie and a nicely curated wine list, satisfaction is guaranteed.

Cool Foodie Events
Downtown Food’s chef collaboration is already sold out, but don’t despair. You can still join the National’s Big Taste bowling tournament and buy tickets to the Meyer Family winemaker’s dinner at Avec this weekend.
Sushi Please
And if you’re in the mood for sushi, there will be no shortage of tasting menus with sake and Sashimi. Blowfish and Hapa Izakaya are conveniently located in the Design District, but Ki Modern Japanese promises an impressive meal, complete with chocolate truffle cake for dessert. During The Big Taste, Ki is also offering a unique pairing menu that includes two Sake options and wine to pair with entrées like Arctic char, seared duck breast, and flat iron steak.
For all the details on participating restaurants, menu specials, and events, you can visit The Big Taste site, but don’t wait to make your reservations, because seats are filling up fast.
Bon Appétit – All. Week. Long.
