On now: Dine Out Vancouver 2013 (January 18 to February 3)
Take a break from kitchen duty for the next several weeks and tap into Vancouver’s thriving culinary scene. Dine Out Vancouver is back with a record number of participating restaurants (more than 200), plenty of appetizing special events, educational seminars and more. Taste your way around the city and enjoy feasting on prix fixe menus that won’t break the budget (starting at $18 to $38).

Canada’s Top Ten 2012 (The Cinematheque, 1131 Howe Street)
Starting this weekend (for three consecutive weekends-only), celebrate all things regarding excellence in Canadian Film. This special ongoing event kicks off with a special guest appearance on January 18th when TIFF Artistic Director Cameron Bailey will be on hand to present top-notch features: Stories We Tell and Rebelle. As the event suggests, theatre-goers will have the opportunity to view 10 top films and wave-making shorts.

Game Design Expo 2013 (200-198 West Hastings)
This weekend, the Vancouver Film School is hosting a very special event guaranteed to pique the interest of hardcore players and would-be designers hoping to get into this creative field. Now in its 7th year, the multi-day event features an open house, seminars and plenty of gaming time. If you can’t make the cut (as it does fill up quickly), be sure to get on their list for next time.

3rd Annual Vancouver Hot Chocolate Festival (January 19 to February 14)
Always a wintertime favourite worth warming up to, be sure to take in this decadent festival celebrating more than 60 different flavours of the gooey-good stuff. Presented by Cityfood Magazine, this collective celebration of cocoa is definitely worth noting and features 19 different hot chocolate venues showcasing their own uniquely sweet concoction.
