Notable Now Vancouver: February 1, 2013

Recently opened: Portside (7 Alexander Street)
After much anticipation, one of Vancouver’s newest brew houses has finally opened in Gastown (courtesy of Mark Brand). Portside features plenty worth talking about including about 24 different beers on tap and four different types of whiskey dispensed from a claw foot bathtub suspended from the ceiling. Last chance: PuSh Festival (on until February 3rd, various venues)
If you haven’t already taken in a few festival hits, this weekend is your last chance to do so. On until Sunday, take advantage of the eclectic mix of performances and talent that has all but taken over venues and stages around Vancouver. Though many may have had last call already, there are still plenty of reasons to hit up the box-office (I, Malvolio and King Lear are just a few). For more info click here.

Groundhog Day (February 2nd at CBC Studio 700 at 700 Hamilton Street)
Celebrate the end or continuation of winter with Shameless Hussy productions, who are taking over the studio with musical performances (Jamie Dale Band) and improv (courtesy of Thomas Jones and the Face Invaders), guaranteed to please. Tickets are $12 at the door and will get you into a night fuelled by plenty of laughs that will distract you from any old groundhog’s shadowy outlook. For more info click here.

The Looking Glass Foundation 9th Annual ‘Be YOU tiful” Gala (February 1st)
Join hundreds of other well-dressed guests for an evening of charitable fun to raise money and awareness about adolescent eating disorders. Hosted by Pamela Martin and featuring a live performance by Cody Karey, the event takes place at The Rocky Mountaineer Vancouver Station (1755 Cottrell Street) starting at 6pm with a top-notch live and silent auction adding to the mix. Sweet Soul Burlesque’s 10 Year Anniversary Extravaganza (February 2nd)
Celebrate 10 cheeky years of burlesque this weekend, strut the red carpet and make your way into the gala event taking place at The Rio Theatre on Saturday. Le Bon Gout: High Fashion (February 1st, 7:30pm – 10pm at Bar None, 1222 Hamilton Street)
Experience an evening filled with fashionable fun, tasty cocktails and delectable offerings courtesy of the Donnelly Group and original artworks by local artists who have used food and dining as key subject matter for expression.
