Shop: Portobello West Holiday Market (December 7th and 8th)
The Creekside Community Centre  (1 Athletes Way) sets the stage for this weekend’s popular gift and craft show courtesy of Portobello West. It’s their final event for 2013 and plans to be bigger and better than ever. Shop around and scoop up unique finds from 75 local artisans with products ranging from art to fashion, accessories, jewelry, sweets and treats for everyone on your list. The first 25 attendees will receive a free and fully loaded swag bag to help kick off the festive shopping spirit and food trucks will be on hand to fuel your appetite accordingly. Recently opened: The Little District (1336 Lonsdale Avenue)
The North Shore’s Lower Lonsdale area has recently welcomed a new culinary addition to the growing mix of offerings with the arrival of The Little District (sibling to popular brasserie, The District). Offering up new dishes, the space is styled after a prohibition-era Manhattan hangout. Diners can meld into the relaxed atmosphere while indulging in a mix of European comfort foods, tapas plates and Southern cuisine. Get a taste online here.

Shop: Toque (December 6th to 7th, 303 E. 8th)
Get crafty this Christmas and head out to Toque at the Western Front this weekend.  With plenty of posh picks on offer, grab designer goods courtesy of Erin Templeton, Draw Me A Lion, Henderson Dry Goods and more. Local artisans will be on hand with sweet and savoury offerings (Cocolico, 1UP Caramels) as well creative artists such as AW by Andrea Wong and Anita Sikma. Grand reopening: The York Theatre (639 Commercial Drive)
Having been recently restored since being originally built in 1913, Vancouver’s York Theatre is set to open with a bang this weekend. Celebrations kick off with a gala event and world premier of An East Van Panto. After having been rescued from scheduled demolition, this 100-year old building will house The Cultch’s opening shows and other community events, providing a theatrical venue steeped in history. The 5k Santa Shuffle (Stanley Park, Lumberman’s Arch)
Lace up this Saturday for a cause and support The Salvation Army in its quest to assist families and individuals in need during the Christmas season and throughout the year.  The annual 5k Santa Shuffle Fun Run & 1K Elf Walk is the perfect excuse to dress up in red, don that ugly sweater and enjoy the outdoors alongside hundreds of other participants. The event is held across North America and takes place at Lumberman’s Arch in picturesque Stanley Park. Registration is $20 and details can be found here.

BLIM 10th Anniversary Party (1965 Main Street)
This Saturday night, make your way over to Vivo and celebrate a decade of BLIM highlights alongside special guests, DJs and performers. As one of Chinatown’s original purveyors of artistic cool, BLIM has long been a family-run craft facility for budding artists and entrepreneurs.
