50 Portraits in 15 Days (Black & Yellow Gallery/Back Gallery Project)
Starting August 22nd until September 7th, be sure to meander by this unique project and artistic endeavour courtesy of Sarah Fougere. Back in Vancouver again and on a quest to create as many individual portraits as possible in just over two weeks, this is not to be missed. Paintings are done using a 12×12 frame and anyone can get involved and participate as part of her project (fee applies per sitting). Click here for details.

Recently Opened: Tap & Barrel (Coal Harbour/Vancouver Convention Centre)
If you’re on the hunt for a new post-work watering hole that also happens to afford a luxury view of the North Shore Mountains, this is your fix. Having opened in the past few weeks, this is Tap & Barrel’s second location and is truly unique.  There are several patio areas to choose from (one being covered and suitable for the inevitable coming months of spotty weather), while another sits perched overlooking the harbour activity. Sprawling restaurant and bar areas are guaranteed to be packed when seasons shift, offering plenty of ambiance, character and cozy factor. More info here.

Pink Salmon Festival (August 25, Vanier/Hadden Park, 1905 Ogden Avenue)
Celebrate the return of the Pink Salmon and be sure to head over to Vanier Park for a culinary treat featuring this celebrated fish. Starting at noon on Sunday and going until 5pm, you’ll have the opportunity to taste test your way around, sampling specially prepared salmon courtesy of local chefs.  Helping spice things up even more, enjoy live entertainment, educational seminars and plenty of other activities. More info here.

Just Opened: Krokodile Pear Cold Pressed Juices (1867 W. 1st Avenue)
Healthy Vancouver living has been taken to new heights since the opening of this organic cold-pressed juice and smoothie bar opened in Kitsilano (to the hardcore yogi’s delight). Using a fancy hydraulic juicer, all the goods are guaranteed to land in your cup. A unique cold-pressed method of juicing means you get big (and healthy) bang for your buck. If you can’t decide what to order, try a flight of freshly pressed juice (only $6). Menu and store info can be found here

Coming Up: Victoria’s Secret Opening, August 29th, 750 Burrard Street
The much-anticipated opening of Victoria’s Secret’s first official Vancouver storefront is almost upon us. As the second largest VC location worldwide, this is definitely worth noting, so be sure to check it out before tweens wreak havoc on the sprawling location. To celebrate this grand opening, Lindsay Ellingson (a VC Angel) will be on hand to welcome the masses with a public autograph signing. This special meet and greet will take place from 5-7pm, but you can scoot the line with a $100 VIP pass. Get ready to shop here.
