Notable Now Toronto: May 23, 2014

CÎROC Coconut
Date: Soon
Location: Canada

What says summer more than the sweet smell of coconut? How about adding some ultra premium vodka. For the first time ever, CÎROC Coconut will soon be available in the hottest venues and liquor stores across Canada and unlike many other grain-made spirits, CÎROC is crafted from fine French grapes. There’s a reason Diddy’s the brand ambassador – this is luxury in a bottle.

Burger Week
Date: May 28-31
Location: Various

More than 60 restaurants throughout the city (including the likes of Holy Chuck Burgers, Rock Lobster Food Co., and The County General) will be offering up specialty burgers for only $5 a piece. The four-day event leads up to Burger Day on June 1, where you’ll be able to try slider versions of all your favourites. Basically, if you’re paying more than $5 for a burger in Toronto next week, you’re doing it wrong.

Ride For Heart
Date: June 1
Location: Gardiner Expressway and Don Valley Parkway

It’s a pretty eerie sight to behold Toronto’s busiest roadway completely devoid of cars. And while it’s perhaps equally as strange to suddenly see it fill up with 14,000 cyclists, knowing that they’re all peddling to raise money for the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation makes it, um, a pretty heartwarming scene as well. 25, 50, and 75km routes are all available, but it’s not the length of the ride that matters – it’s how much you raise.

Brunch with Bennyfits
Date:
Location: O&B Yonge & Front

Brunch. You love it, we love it, O&B loves it. In fact, they love it so much that all summer long they’ll be giving you $3 Caesars and mimosas at their Cafe Grill. Offering reasonably priced hair of the dog, however, isn’t enough to make you notable; it’s the fact that O&B will also be donating $1 from every eggs Benny order to the Fife House that makes this brunch option one of the best in the city.

MEC Bikefest
Date: May 31
Location: Trinity Bellwoods Park

Summer always brings an invasion of velocipedes. Relax, we’re not getting all Jurassic Park on you, we’re just using a fancy word for bikes. If two wheels is the only way you get around you’re going to want to be at Trinity Bellwoods when MEC brings demos, clinics, group rides, retailers, tune ups, and more all to one spot. How will they have room, you ask? Bike valet parking. Seriously.

Flashdance
Date: May 27-June 8
Location: Ed Mirvish Theatre

Whether you know the movie (and every single step Jennifer Beal takes) or only J-Lo comes to mind, Flashdance has been influencing how people dance alone in front of a mirror for years. The pop-culture phenomenon is taking the stage for an 11-day run at Mirvish Theatre and reviews suggest this is one of the can’t-miss musicals of the year. Oh, what a feeling.
