Notable Now Toronto: March 7, 2014

Toronto Fashion Week
Date: March 17-21
Location: David Pecaut Square, 215 King St. W.

If you think it’s too early to be getting enthusiastic about World MasterCard Fashion Week, you’re probably still wearing something from last year’s collection. To this we say: stop living in the past and start getting excited for Canada’s leading fashion event. To us, the “nexus of style, culture, [and] entertainment” sounds like a pretty good place to be. So keep your eyes locked on Notable.ca for an exclusive opportunity to meet some of Canada’s most influential designers in the Notable Lounge.

Arcade Fire
Date: March 13
Location: ACC

Isn’t the title enough for you? Is there another band in the world that’s getting as much attention for its live concerts right now? This is arguably the biggest Canadian band of all time (don’t worry Rush, we haven’t forgotten you) in their prime, which means this is simply a must-see concert. Hitting up the ACC on their Reflektor Tourwe suggest you don’t forget your formal wear when you step into the crowd. Us, we’ll be in the same thing we wore to grade 8 prom.

Canadian Screen Awards
Date: March 9
Location: Sony Centre for the Performing Arts, CBC Television

We’ve got talent – it’s a fact. Now all we have to do is celebrate it. Martin Short will be hosting the 2-Hour Live broadcast of the Canadian Screen Awards gala so you can be sure it will be more entertaining than a pizza joke that goes on for two hours (yes, Ellen, we’re looking at you). Film, television, and digital media will all get their moment in the sun, so tune in and pay attention to what’s been most notable on Canadian screens this past year.

ComiCon
Date: March 7-9
Location: Metro Toronto Convention Centre

Suit up and strap in and don’t forget your pen. There’ll be autograph signings, celebratory photo sessions, and celebratory Q&As. There will also be tonnes of places to buy up your favourite books and zines as well as dozens of workshops and interactive events including Voice Acting 101 and Anime Win, Lose, or Draw. Special guests at this year’s event include Jon Heder (aka Napoleon Dynamite), Eliza Dushku (Buffy/Angel), and both Sean Astin and Billy Boyd of The Lord of the Rings fame. Go get starstruck.

National Home Show
Date: March 14-23
Location: Direct Energy Centre, Exhibition Place

“Real Advice. Real Inspiration. Real Experts.” The 2014 National Home Show is right around the corner and will be ready to provide inspiration for all your home and landscaping projects. With over 750 exhibitors showcasing their best and newest products and services, you’ll be able to feel worthy of having your own HGTV show in no time. This is the largest home and garden show in North America so we suspect if you can’t find it here, it doesn’t really exist.

Lorde
Date: March 15
Location: Sound Academy

Want to feel bad about yourself? Go see Lorde in concert and watch the talent dripping off of her. And then remember that she’s only 18 years old. Fresh off a huge Grammy win, we imagine the young New Zealander will be in royal form (see what we did there?) when she hits the stage at the Sound Academy. Not surprisingly, this is an all ages event, ‘cause, you know, otherwise Lorde wouldn’t be allowed in to perform.
