Notable Now Toronto: March 29, 2013

Just Opened: Bushi Udon Kappo
We adore our Japanese cuisine, eh? Another Asian restaurant has opened up at 1404 Yonge Street. What sets this new deliverer of deliciousness apart from some its counterparts is that their noodles (udon, from the name) are actually house-made. With sharing plates and sushi offerings to boot, Bushi Udon Kappo is bringing a trifecta of Japanese cuisine to midtown.

Just Opened: Cote de Boeuf
From the owners of Union Restaurant comes another Ossington establishment. Cote de Boeuf recently opened at 130 Ossington Avenue, and is a haven for prepared foods, take-home dinners, and some amazing butchery meats. Reminiscent of the pre-industrial age mom and pop shops, Cote de Boeuf is a true-to-form entity on Ossington.

Just Opened: Media Bar
It looks like Toronto has a new hot spot in Media Bar, tucked away behind the Hyatt on King Street. As its name would suggest, the new space makes numerous nods to the vintage media world. This is reflected in everything from the décor to the website and even menu. Unique and refined, Media Bar, at 77 Peter Street, isn’t your typical university hangout in the Entertainment District.

Rent: The Musical
It’s back in the city, and we couldn’t be more excited. Starting this weekend and running through May 5th, the musical that helped define what it is to be a modern day musical is back in Toronto at the Lower Ossington Theatre (100 Ossington Avenue). It tells the story of a group of impoverished young artists and musicians struggling to survive and create in New York’s Lower East Side under the shadow of AIDS.

Grape to Glass
The 4th annual wine-centric fundraiser for Women’s College Hospital, Grape to Glass, is pouring itself into the chalice that is The Fifth Social Club (225 Richmond Street West) on April 11. With a tasting of select wines, gourmet food, and a phenomenal silent auction that includes some of the world’s rarest wines, Grapes to Glass is one event you won’t want to miss.

The Green Living Show
From April 12 through 14, visit the eco-conscious mecca that is The Green Living Show at the Direct Energy Centre in Exhibition Place. With hundreds of green vendors and exhibitors alongside world-class speakers discussing innovation and sustainability, the Green Living Show is North America’s largest consumer show dedicated to workable solutions for leading a healthy and sustainable lifestyle.
