Notable Now Toronto: June 20, 2014

Summer Solstice
Date: June 21
Location: Earth

The longest day of the year deserves some extra attention. We don’t care how you spend it, just get outside and enjoy the fact that it’s actually, finally, unbelievably, technically, summer. Hit up The Junction Summer Solstice Festival or get involved in a full day of continuous outdoor yoga classes, cleverly titled Om T.O., to get the most out of June 21st.

Wine and Spirit Festival
Date: June 19-21
Location: Sugar Beach

The name says it all. If a weekend of sampling some of the finest potent potables in the city sounds like a good plan, then this is exactly where you’ll want to spend the next few days. Live music, tasting seminars, and a waterfront location. If yoga isn’t your thing, this is yet another great way to welcome the longest day of the year.

Digital Dreams
Date: June 28-29
Location: Ontario Place

This is the largest electronic music festival in Canada. More than 70 of the industry’s biggest artists will descend on Ontario Place for a two-day party that includes everything from bottle service to gourmet food. If you don’t leave here with at least one memory of a lifetime, we’re going to have to suspect you did it wrong.

Ribfest
Date: June 27-July 1
Location: Centennial Park

More than 15 specialty ‘ribbers’, gourmet food trucks, three stages of live music featuring more than two dozen artists, giant screens showing the World Cup, a human foosball game, and a Canada Day celebration. If you only make it to Etobicoke once this summer, this should be that time.

Music
Date: June 20-30
Location: Various

Other than Digital Dreams, the line-up of bands coming through Toronto in the last 10 days of June looks like this: Lauryn Hill, Arctic Monkeys, OneRepublic, Dave Matthews, Fall Out Boy, Boston, The Antlers, Beck, Michael Bublé, and Lionel Richie. So the city has pretty much taken care of everyone’s musical tastes until July.

Fringe Festival
Date: July 2-13
Location: Various

The 26th iteration of Toronto’s largest theatre festival features more than 1000 actors and artists bringing their very best to the stage. This year you’ll also be able to download a brand new app to keep up to date on all your favourite shows and late-night dance parties. For two weeks in July, the edge will become the centre.
