Notable Now Toronto: January 11, 2013

From four new restaurant openings to the upcoming kickoff of the Interior Design show, we've covered all of the notable happenings you should have marked down on your social calendar this coming week

Just Opened: DYNE on Avenue
In the spot that had housed perennial favourite Malena, we now have DYNE on Avenue, at 120 Avenue Road. This fusion restaurant boasts intriguing dishes that have an Asian flair, like mackerel with shishito pepper paste, or duck with blood orange and chocolate. There’s also an uber-luxe chef’s last meal perfect for pairing, replete with foie gras and butter poached lobster.

Just Opened: Buonanotte Toronto
Montreal favourite supper club Buonanotte opens their Toronto location to the masses this week at 19 Mercer Street, the space once famous as Ame Restaurant. Featuring intricate decor – like the gorgeous golden light ceiling grid – and a menu made up of contemporary Italian dishes, this new spot is sure to be a scenester’s delight.

Just Opened: Zakkushi
The Asian restaurant invasion continues in Toronto with the recent opening of Zakkushi Charcoal Grill at 193 Carlton Street. This Japanese restaurant has izakaya, yakitori bar, and sushi spot sensibilities all rolled into one, making it a perfect locale that will appease most diners. Enjoy the authentic flavours of Japan, brought to us by the Toronto outpost of this Vancouver chain.

Just Opened: Cafune
Another Cabbagetown newbie, Cafune (at 194A Carlton Street), brings the flavours and spirit of Brazil to the table. Part cafe, part restaurant, part gallery, Cafune features indigenous and Afro-Brazilian cuisine alongside artworks by small artisans from rural areas of Brazil. Enjoy a Brazil meets France sharing platter while taking in the decor and enjoying some award-winning coffee.

January 24th through 27th: Interior Design Show
The interior designer in all of us waits for this amazing show each year. IDS 2013 takes over a mass area of the Metro Toronto Convention Centre from the 24th through the 27th, showcasing the best furnishings, decor, and appliances from top brands through to mom-and-pop operations. With everything to reinvigorate your space, this showcase of interior design is a must-see.

Just Opened: Aria Entertainment Complex
Party-goers, club heads, and DJ-philes take note: Aria Entertainment Complex has opened up it’s massive space at 108 Peter Street. Inspired by the megaclubs found in Vegas, Aria boasts four rooms all with distinctive personality. The rooftop lounge area, called Pure, also features a sky dome that will open to reveal the lights of the city sky come summer.
