Notable Now Toronto: February 1, 2013

Just Opened: Porzia
We’d been waiting awhile, and now it has finally arrived: Porzia, the new restaurant from Chef Basilio Pesce (formerly of Biff’s Bistro and Canoe). Parkdale’s newest Italian restaurant (located at 1314 Queen Street West), has a small menu of homestyle Italian classic dishes, a retro-meets-mod room, and some tasty cocktails.

Just Opened: Boccone Trattoria at Pearson Airport
Celeb Chef Massimo Capra’s got some new digs. No, he hasn’t left Mistura, but he has partnered to bring some more notable dining to Pearson Airport. Boccone Trattoria has just opened up in Terminal 1 at Toronto’s international airport, offering up the same dedication to classic Italian eats as Capra’s other restaurants. The renaissance of Pearson into a world-class airport hub grows ever stronger…

Just Opened: Chili Cult
At 1647 Eglinton Avenue West you’ll find the latest restaurant to join the one-hit wonder craze in Toronto: Chili Cult. As its name suggests, Chili Cult is all about chili. Chili fries, chili quesadillas, and of course, beef and vegetarian chili bowls that you can top to your heart’s content. In a city saturated with burger and pizza joints, we’re getting chills thinking about Chili Cult.

Just Opened: Mint Boutique in the Distillery
The Distillery District’s shopping scene has grown quite a bit lately, with GotStyle’s second location staking a claim in the historic area, and now Mint Boutique. This 6,000 sq. ft. expanse houses designer fashions for women alongside some great accessories and housewares. The raw space (at 6 Rack House Mews) is the perfect backdrop for this fashionista dream shop.

The Book Lover’s Ball brings literary magic to the Fairmont Royal York (100 Front Street West) on Feb 7, hosted by Cityline’s Tracy Moore. Now in its 8th year, the Book Lover’s Ball brings together some of Canada’s greatest literary genii in support of Toronto’s Library. This black tie affair boasts an auction, a three-course dinner, and of course, mixing and mingling with Canada’s shining literary stars.
