Notable Now Toronto: August 9, 2013

Just Opened: Brussels Bistro
At 1975A Queen Street East you’ll now find Brussels Bistro, a French/Belgian restaurant that serves up bistro-style (shocking, right?) cuisine in the heart of the Beaches area. With an amazing mix of appetizers, mains, and, of course, great wines, Brussels Bistro is one of the new wave of restaurants that’s bringing the Beaches back to our top of mind.

Just Opened: LOT St.
Named after Queen Street’s historic nickname, Lot Street just opened this past weekend at 685 Queen Street West. LOT St. is a self-proclaimed celebrator of “the cuisine of our diverse Canadian culture and tribute to the craft of cooking farm fresh.” With Canadiana trends always on the rise, LOT St. is poised to stake a place on our urban landscape.

Just Opened: Que Supper Club
One part supper club, one part BBQ haven, one part art/music/event space, Que Supper Club (at 364 Queen Street East) is certainly a feast for the senses. Que combines our city’s love of the nightlife with our love of all things smoked, and we don’t see anything wrong with that. It’s a unique take on the classic restaurant formula, and we can’t wait to check it out.

Opening Soon: Momofuku Daisho’s Terrace
There’s another reason to visit the acclaimed (it’s a top contender for enRoute’s Best New Restaurants this year) Momofuku Daisho in the Shangri-La Hotel (190 University Avenue, third floor). It’s getting a terrace. While somewhat late in the season, being able to dine under the sky in style on the haute Asian cuisine that pumps out of the kitchen just makes this joint all the more Notable.

The Ex
It’s back, and looking like it’ll be better than ever. That’s right kids of all ages, the Canadian National Exhibition (at, naturally, Exhibition Place) starts Aug 16 and runs through Sept 2, bringing with it midways, live entertainment (did someone say the Beach Boys?), rides, carnival fun, and, of course, deep-fried goods galore (look out for the Cronut Burger).

CraveTO Day & Night
On Aug 17 in Mirvish Village (the lot in between buildings at 581 Bloor Street West), join hundreds (and maybe even thousands) of foodies for the second CraveTO event: Day and Night. Not surprisingly, you’ll have the option of snatching tix for either timeslot, and sampling the goods of some of the city’s top food vendors while listening to live music and partaking in “the sauce.”
