Notable Now Toronto: August 24, 2012

Just Opened: Urraca Resto Lounge
We’re heading uptown on this one; Urraca Resto Lounge just opened up shop at 19A Finch Avenue. What are they serving? Some fantastic Korean tapas. Beautiful leather banquettes adorn the bright and streamlined space, allowing the vibrant and fresh colours of the food to take centre stage. Look for dishes like mini Korean beef tacos, beef tataki, and kimchi-laden pork belly to spice up your appetite.

Just Opened: Museum Tavern
Found at 208 Bloor Street West, Museum Tavern is a new Yorkville spot that’s bringing a taste of American classics to the strip. (With a bit of French bistro thrown in the mix.) Featuring spectacular cocktails and liquors to whet most any palate – try any of the 50 or so scotches at the bar – and some fantastic gourmet bistro fare, Museum Tavern is just the taste the Bloor Street stretch needed.

Opening Soon: Massimo Dutti
Spanish retailer Massimo Dutti is opening its first North American location in Toronto, at, not surprisingly, the Eaton Centre. Slated to open on August 30, this modernwear for men and women is akin to Zara and has similarities to Club Monaco as well. Featuring structured attire, excellent lines, and quality clothes, Massimo Dutti is sure to be a new hit on the fashion scene.

Just Opened: Harry Rosen Eaton Centre
Sorry ladies, this one’s for the gents (seriously, I’m sorry). One of my favourite menswear stores, Harry Rosen recently opened their brand spankin’ new Eaton Centre location. Gotta say, it’s sharp as can be. With clean lines, a lightened interior, private lounge-like fitting rooms, and more space and brands than the previous Eaton Centre incarnation, this is one opening worthy of note.

Build The Future 2012
The amazing Storys building (11 Duncan Street) will play host to the Burgundy Brick Foundation’s Build the Future 2012 on August 28th, an event supporting Habit for Humanity Toronto. Now in its 5th year running, the event provides an opportunity to mingle among fellow young professionals over hors d’oeuvres, an overload of sweets, cocktails and musical entertainment.

Hennessy Black Cocktail Competition
On August 28 at The Drake Hotel (1150 Queen Street West), Toronto’s top bartenders will be competing in the Hennessy Black Cocktail Competition. They’ll be mixing their prize-winning cocktail recipes for guests to sample (and vote on!), while DJ Mkutz will be spinning his signature beats. With surprises in store, this will be one notable event for sure.
