Notable Now Toronto: August 16, 2013

Notable Now this week in Toronto: The opening of The Chase in the financial district, Libertine on Dundas West, Destingo on Queen West, and Brock Sandwich on Bloor East; the CNE and Summer Craft Beer Fest

Just Opened: The Chase
In the historic Dineen Building at Yonge and Temperance (10 Temperance Street) you’ll now find The Chase and The Chase Fish and Oyster. The former is serving up refined seafood in a beautiful atmosphere (patio included) while the latter is a more rustic treat for the tastebuds. Both restaurants are upping the ante on Toronto’s oceanic offerings, and we see nothing wrong with that!

Just Opened: Libertine
The snack bar trend keeps growing in the city, and you won’t find us complaining. Small bites, perfect for late night eats or pre-late night drinks, are always on offer at these spots, and the newest entrant to the scene could be the most impressive yet. The Libertine opened up just a few days ago at 1307 Dundas West, and already the buzz abounds at this new joint.

Just Opened: Destingo
At 739 Queen West you’ll now find Destingo, a new Italian restaurant that’s bringing comfort cuisine to the west end strip and infusing it with Italian influence. The pedigree at this place is impressive: both the owner and chef are formerly of Yorkville maintstay Vaticano. But the food is more rustic than refined, and offers up a creative take on Italian classics.

Aug. 16 to Sept. 2: CNE
It launches today and runs through September 2nd. Yes, ladies and gents, The Ex is back and it’s bigger than ever. Featuring rides aplenty, the midway for all you gamers, celebrity chefs and live entertainment, and, of course, the food pavillion which this year sees the already hyped Cronut Burger making its debut, the CNE at Exhibition Place is one grand event you won’t want to miss.

Just Opened: Brock Sandwich
Ah, the good ol’ sandwich shop. We love spots that focus on one thing and do it really, really, really well. That’s exactly what you’re in for when you pop by Brock Sandwich, a new… er… sandwich shop that’s opened up at 1260 Bloor Street West. Hearty bites of bliss is what you’ll find within, where they use only the finest ingredients to craft these sammies.

Summer Craft Beer Fest
Aug. 22 sees another Craft Beer Festival coming to the city. The Summer Craft Beer Fest is going down in about a week’s time at 171 East Liberty Street, Unit 218. Over 20 craft breweries will be on hand to offer up their hand-crafted, pure pints of perfection, alongside nosh from some of the best Liberty Market Food Vendors. Get your tickets early!
