Notable Now Toronto: August 15, 2014

Schmooze
Date: August 15
Location: Maison Mercer, 15 Mercer St.

There are only a few Fridays left to get your schmooze on at one of the hottest after work parties in the city. And we’ve teamed up with Maison Mercer to make this Friday’s the most memorable yet. Picture complimentary barbeque from 5-6:30pm, happy hour drink specials until 11pm (think: pitchers of mojitos and sangria), and a view and vibe better than any in the city.

Mad Decent Block Party
Date: August 15
Location: 250 Fort York Blvd

If “hipster dipster” fits your profile, you’re in luck, because Diplo‘s rolling his particular brand of three-ring dance antics into Fort York for the annual Mad Decent Block Party. While the roster’s full of acts hipsters can’t wait to see, we’re giving a proper shout-out for our main man Chance the Rapper. He’s the guiltiest pleasure we’ll admit to, and he’s here headlining a list that includes the label’s field general himself, Diplo, as well as Flosstradamus and hometown DJ heroes Zeds Dead.

Summer Sundays @ Malaparte
Date: August 17
Location: TIFF Bell Lightbox

A rooftop terrace. A Champagne bar. A live DJ. O&B chefs. A Notable cocktail. This is how you brunch – so much so that when Malaparte hosted two of these special Sunday morning meals, they both sold out. If you want to enjoy brunch fare exclusively crafted by O&B’s expert chefs atop an urban oasis, we suggest you get your ticket as soon as you finish reading this sentence.

Sail-in Cinema
Date: August 14-16
Location: 25 Dockside Drive

Returning for its third year, Sail-in Cinema will transform Sugar Beach into Toronto’s largest outdoor theatre. It will be a two-sided floating movie screen on a huge barge, allowing audiences to watch from both dry land or from a boat in the harbour. If you have a friend with a boat that owes you a favour, now is the time to collect.

Fusion Notable Icon Series
Date: August 26
Location: It’s a secret (shhhh)

Our second Toronto Icon Series event was held last Tuesday in an exclusive area at TIFF Bell Lightbox while TIFF’s Director of Film Programmes, Jesse Wente, delivered an inspiring speech on the history of film and the role we’ll all play in its future. This was of course topped off with premium drinks, food, and a private screening of the digitally re-mastered Godfather II. If you want to be a part of our next, and last, Fusion Notable Icon Series in Toronto, sign up here: Torontoiconseries@notable.ca

Corona SunSets
Date: August 16
Location: Hanlan’s Island

As the website says, “Corona SunSets brings renowned electronic music innovators to the most amazing beach backdrops.” Want proof? How about Moby, Wolf & Lamb, and Thievery Corporation hitting up Hanlan’s Island this Sunday. It’s not just the beats that will keep you moving though; there will obviously be enough Corona on hand to drown all of Toronto. Enjoy.
