Notable Now Toronto: April 5, 2013

Just Opened: Tavoos
The Pomegranate Restaurant has a new little sister in the form of Tavoos, which opened recently at 1120 College Street West. Featuring refined takes on foods from different regions of Iran, this Persian restaurant boasts a beautiful little interior with art and decor reflecting its cuisine’s origins. In an area dominated by Italian food, it’s great to see a different dining style setting up shop.

Just Opened: Grasslands
When Fressen shut its doors a few months ago, vegans and vegetarians alike felt like they’d lost a best friend. But, just a few days ago, Fressen was resurrected as Grasslands. Herbivores rejoice! Still located at 478 Queen Street West, Grasslands is an evolution of Fressen, refining the already refined vegan/vegetarian cuisine with a slick new look.

Just Opened: Tiger of Sweden
Ossington’s got a brand new shop in the form of Tiger of Sweden. Featuring men’s and women’s clothing with European styling, Tiger of Sweden is anything but a new blip on Toronto’s shopping scene. Operating a large space at 56 Ossington Avenue, this upscale boutique-style store caters to a more discerning dresser.

FAT Week
Don’t let the name fool you. FAT is an acronym for Fashion. Art. Toronto. From April 23 to 27, FAT presents a platform for over 200 national and international fashion designers, visual artists, bands, performers, and the like to showcase their inventive and contemporary expressions of their medium. At various venues throughout the city, this is kind of like the alternative fashion week… with oh-so-much more!

Toronto Jewish Film Festival
From April 11 to 21, the Toronto Jewish Film Festival – now in its 21st year – takes to the city to showcase the artistic revelry and wholly originative films created by, starring, and produced by Jewish creatives. Films will show at The Bloor Hot Docs Cinema, The Cineplex Odeon Sheppard Cinemas, Innis Town Hall, and, for the first time, The ROM Eaton Theatre. Find out more at TJFF.com.

The Art Galleria Expo
On April 19 at Tattoo Rock Parlour (567 Queen Street West), The Art Galleria Expo will be a massive party like no other. Hundreds of trendy scenesters will take to the club’s two floors to take part in a silent auction of artist originals, watch live oil painting, drink, dance, and network in a hip and sexy atmosphere.
