Just Opened: Thirsty and Miserable
For the curmudgeons, the beer geeks, and the casual imbibers comes Thirsty and Miserable (197 Baldwin Street). Featuring almost 40 brews, a personality that borders on self-deprecating, and a small menu of classic pub favourites, expect this beer bar to be a new after-work hot spot.
Just Opened: CATCH
Joining in the sustainable seafood movement – brought on in large part thanks to the OceanWise program – is CATCH, a new restaurant at 744 St. Clair Avenue West, owned by the same folks behind Rushton. With some of the most mouth-watering seafood dishes this city has seen, CATCH is definitely a hook, line, and sinker.
Heart Truth Fashion Show
The annual Heart Truth Fashion Show brings the catwalk to the Carlu again on March 8th. This major fundraiser for the Heart and Stroke Foundation features designs by houses like David Dixon, Paul Hardy, and Adrian Wu and celeb models like Gene Simmons, Jully Black, and Shannon Tweed, to name but a few.
Just Opened: SLICED
Taking over part of the building that was once a dilapidated motel is SLICED, a grab-and-go fresh, fast food shop that offers gourmet sandwiches, salads, soups and the like. Think Lobster BLT, Moroccan Lemon Chicken, and Fig and Prosciutto. Much of the menu was inspired by the owners’ travels abroad. Bonus, the space was designed by Toronto firm Cecconi Simone.
For the Love of Wine
Marben restaurant (488 Wellington Street) will serve up some perfectly paired gourmet food for the next instalment of For the Love of Wine on March 7th, featuring amazing Niagara region reds that can’t be gotten at your local LCBO. Enjoy some robust rouges while nibbling chocolate and dishes by award-winning chef Carl Heinrich.
Legally Blonde the Musical
Everyone’s favourite Elle Woods is back in platinum fashion for a three-week stint at the Lower Ossington Theatre beginning March 9th and ending on the 31st. In a musical reprise of the film made popular by Reese Witherspoon’s pitch-perfect self, watch Elle and her chihuahua make it in a brunette’s world accompanied by fanciful whimsy.
