Jerry Seinfeld Live
If you were alive and owned a TV in the 90s, this title should sell itself. Arguably one of the most recognizable comics of our time is coming to Calgary this weekend on his tour with Just For Laughs. Though his stand-up routine may have evolved somewhat from the days of the Soup Nazi, his signature brand of “comedy about nothing” is pretty eternal. Tickets are still available for both the September 19th and 20th shows, so put on your puffy shirt, grab your equivalent of Kramer, and get down to the Jubilee Theatre.

Flamenco Festival
Remember that summer in Spain when you fell in love to the sound of Flamenco music? Whether you did or didn’t, it sounds pretty incredible, doesn’t it? In its fourth year, the Calgary International Flamenco Festival is on from September 20-27 and features interactive workshops, including a free beginner dance class and elaborate live shows presented by a company of top global performers. The concerts are all being held at Webber Academy Performing Arts Centre and sold out last year, so we suggest getting on this early. For more info, click here.

CIFF Two 4 One
Scrolling through the impressive list of events at this year’s Calgary International Film Festival (Sept. 18-28) can be a bit overwhelming. Allow us to help make choosing easier: see the world premiere of Two 4 One at the Cineplex Odeon Eau Claire. This bittersweet comedic dramatic comedy stars Alberta’s very own Gavin Crawford in an intriguing lead role where he finds himself in a very unexpected predicament after a one-night stand. Fun fact: this film was made with the support of a crowdfunding campaign with many of its donations coming from Calgary. If you miss the premiere on Sunday, Sept. 21st, there’s a second screening on Wednesday, Sept. 23 at 5:15pm, also at Eau Claire.

Winsport Legacy Gala
Fall is gala season in Calgary, but sometimes it can be hard to find the right one to splurge on. WinSport’s 80s-themed affair on September 25th is making a pretty good case for itself this year by bringing in some of the city’s top chefs (think Catch, the Petroleum Club, and Il Sogno, to name a few) and six live bands straight out of the days of The Breakfast Club (Men Without Hats and Wang Chung – we’re not even joking). Also, with all this talk of spending scandals lately, you can be sure that 100 per cent of your money is going straight to the young Olympians of the future who train at WinSport facilities. Ticket prices vary, so get the details here.

FolkFest Doppelsingers
If you somehow had the misfortune of being out of town for Folk Fest this year, there is a way to satiate your appetite until next summer. September 26th is your chance to hear local singer-songwriters like you’ve never heard them before, performing crossover covers of songs outside of their usual genres. (Get it yet? Doppelsingers?) The show is free, but get there for 7pm to get up close and personal with artists like J.J. Shiplett and Astral Swans. For more info, click here.

Doors Open YYC
This one’s for the curious cats out there and lovers of any behind-the-scenes tour. Doors Open YYC takes place over the course of the entire weekend (September 27-28) and across every quadrant of the city, giving the public access to the inner workings of some pretty cool operations. From learning how Fiasco makes such delicious gelato to how C-Trains are fixed when they break, and even how the Alberta Children’s Hospital saves kids’ lives daily, there’s a lot to take in. Plan out your visits on the event website here.
