Sake Master’s Dinner at Ki
On Tuesday, September 17, Ki Modern Japanese + Bar presents a Hakkaisan Eight Peaks Sake Master’s Dinner, hosted by Timothy Sullivan, one of world’s top Sake Ambassadors from New York City. Hakkaisan uses spring water from “Raiden,” the lightning God from the foot of Mt. Hakkai. A delicious menu will be prepared by Chef Kudosan; cocktails start at 6:30pm with dinner at 7pm. Tickets are $140 (excluding taxes and gratuity). Contact Adam Snelling at 403.264.1133 or adam@kijapanese.com.

Beakerhead
Beakerhead is a five-day, hands-on citywide spectacle in Calgary that brings together the arts, science and engineering; it started on Wednesday and runs through Sunday. Friday from 4pm to 6pm, stroll down Stephen Ave. after work and you just might stumble upon the HippoLove Mutant Vehicle fresh off the playa at Burning Man, the BeakerBoat, mechanical and kinetic creatures, roaming scientists with pop-up labs and Speaker City, an interactive sound installation by PK Sound. Click here for more events.

Glenbow Launch Party
Saturday, September 14 is Glenbow’s fall launch party with an 80s/Weird Science theme from 7pm to 10pm. The Made in Calgary series continues this fall with The 1980s, so dress up in your fave 80s gear, snap some pics in their portrait studio, and groove to some tunes from the most rad decade. The Glenbow has partnered up with Beakerhead, so in addition to the mechanical wonders in front of the Museum on Stephen Ave, Calgary-based noise musician Smoth will manipulate sounds, lights and people with various forms of electricity. RSVP by the 13th at rsvp@glenbow.org.

Really, Really Long Table Dinner
The City Palate is celebrating 20 great years in Calgary with 20 fun foodie events. Monday, September 16, is the Really, Really Long Table Dinner, which will be set up along Stephen Avenue. There will be five delicious courses and room for 240 people to come down and enjoy the spread, which is being provided by Blink, Catch & the Oyster Bar, Charcut, Divino, Teatro, The Belvedere, The Cellar and Trib Steakhouse. For those of you who want to enjoy yourselves and stay downtown for the evening, Hotel Arts will have a special rate that night of $205 + tax. This rate will include $100 towards the two restaurants at the bottom of the hotel: Yellow Door Bistro and Raw Bar. All proceeds go to the Red Cross. Tickets are $150.

50 Shades of Grey – The Musical
This is theatre with a twist! The Jubilee Auditorium is bringing the musical 50 Shades of Grey to town for one night only on September 17th. This musical will capture audiences, whether this is your first encounter with Christian Grey or you’ve read the entire trilogy of novels by E.L James. The musical is a comical tale that tells the story of a ladies book club that has decided their next read will be the infamous ‘50 Shades of Grey’. The play has been called ‘sexy’ and ‘hilarious’, and has been a smash success on tour. www.50ShadesMusical.com or 1.855.985.5000.

YWCA Walk a Mile in Her Shoes
On September 19, the YWCA Walk a Mile in Her Shoes fundraiser takes place. This annual event raises money and awareness to put an end to violence against women and children. The event is a chance for men to come out and show their support by putting on a pair of heels and completing two laps around Olympic Plaza. There is no registration fee and this event is by donation only. All participants should be there for 11 am to register as the Walk begins at noon. High heels will be provided to the brave men who want to come out and participate. There will be a complimentary lunch to follow. For information: support.ywcaofcalgary.com
