Drake
Canadian hip-hop star Drake is passing through Calgary on his latest North American tour and he will be playing at the Saddledome on the 30th of November. Drake is an artist, rapper, songwriter and actor who got his start on Degrassi: The Next Generation before being signed to Lil Wayne’s label. Some of Drake’s hit songs include Best I Ever Had and Take Care Miguel and Future will be opening the show. Doors are at 7pm. For tickets, click here.

From Russia With Love
During the 1st and 2nd of December you’ll have the chance to attend the Lougheed House for a concert celebrating the beauty of Russian music. You’ll be entertained with the sounds of Russian musicians like Rachmaninoff, Rimsky-Korsakov, Tarvediev, Vlasov and Ippolitov-Ivanov. Soprano Michele Cusson will be joined by pianists Kathleen van Mourik and Charels Foreman, violinist Donovan Seidle and cellist Kirill Kalmykov.? 

During the intermission there will be snacks served compliments of the Lougheed House Restaurant and you’ll have a few minutes to explore the enchanting old sandstone mansion. Tickets are $40. The Lougheed House is located 707 13 Avenue SW. 403-240-4174.

Pearl Jam
Eddie Vedder and the boys from Pearl Jam will be lighting up the Saddledome on December 2nd. Like plaid shirts and Nirvana, these guys will always hold a special place in the 90s music scene. The great thing about Pearl Jam concerts is that almost everyone in the crowd can sing along to classics like ‘Daughter’ and ‘Alive’. Even 20-some years after putting out albums like Ten, Pearl Jam is still going strong. The band is currently on tour promoting their new album Lighting Bolt. For tickets, click here.

Hot Docs
Hot Docs works with the Calgary Underground Film Festival (CIFF) to present a variety of documentaries that cover all sorts of interesting topics. This month’s screening will take place on December 4th at the Cineplex Odeon in Eau Claire Market (200 Barclay Parade SW). Blood Brothers is a story of self-discovery and follows an American visiting India to work in a care centre that treats people living with HIV/AIDS. The film won the Grand Jury Prize and the Audience Award for US Documentary at Sundance. Tickets are $13 and the show begins at 7pm. 

Domaine Carneros by Taittinger
A night of women and wine. On December 5th, Willow Park is hosting a night with Domaine Carneros, a producer out of Northern California’s Carneros region. Eileen Crane, the winemaker of Domaine Carneros, will be hosting the event. Crane is considered to be one of the most powerful women in wine today. While you taste through an amazing selection of sparkling wine, you’ll also be treated to a California spread of seafood, fish tacos, California rolls and flatbread. This event is $45 starts at 7pm. 

Operation Pagbangon
Operation Pagbangon is an effort to raise money for the devastating typhoon that hit the Philippines earlier this month. On December 1st, a telethon called Operation Pagbangon will be broadcast from 10 to 4pm in an effort to help raise funds for people still dealing with the after effects of the disaster. There are roughly 30 different Filipino organizations and businesses that have come together to help make this happen and they need everyone’s support.
