Nicholas Kristof Comes to Calgary
If you have an interest in global issues and social justice but haven’t heard of Nicholas Kristof, you should attend this event. A veteran New York Times columnist and two time Pulitzer-winning author, Kristof has been on the ground digging into some of the world’s most difficult and under-examined challenges for decades. He will be at Grace Presbyterian Church in Calgary on Saturday, March 22nd to present “Conversations of unCommon Grace,” a discussion around human trafficking here in Canada and abroad. Outdoor Adventure & Travel Show
As warmer temperatures tease us to come out and play, the Outdoor Adventure & Travel Show has arrived just in time to get you back into the mood to explore your natural surroundings. Admission is $8, which includes access to an array of exhibitors and guest speakers who are eager to inform you about everything from global eco-tourism and camping to mountain races and paddle sports. Jay Malinowski and the Deadcoast
Back from his days of jamming with Bedouin Soundclash, Jay Malinowski descends upon Calgary on March 25 with a deeper, more introspective sound that is receiving a lot of attention on CBC Radio and beyond. Presented by the Calgary Folk Festival, Jay will be performing songs from his intriguing new album, Martel, alongside local talent Astral Swans. Before checking out the show, be sure to experience the interactive web project. All the fun is happening at Festival Hall (1215 10 Ave. SE) at 7pm. Tickets are $20 at the door or $18 in advance.

Metrovino “Brave New World” Winetasting
New World wine lovers rejoice! Metrovino is hosting a tasting on March 26 from 6:30 to 8:30pm to showcase the very best wines coming out of the relatively newer wine regions of the world. Spoken Word Workshop
Celebrate the power of poetry and the human voice in the East Village with award-winning Calgary-based spoken word artist Erin Dingle. The workshop, presented by LimeLighter, will break down the components of slam poetry and spoken word and discuss techniques around writing for self-discovery and expression. The event will be held at the exciting new literary art space called Loft 112 (located at 535 8 Avenue SE) on March 29 from 1pm to 3pm. For more information email tammy@limelighter.com. Adapted for the stage from Graham Greene’s quirky 1969 book, this comedic mystery will take you on an adventure you won’t soon forget. Directed by Calgary-based director Simon Mallett, the piece uniquely features only four actors responsible for playing various roles in a much larger cast in a wild and fast-paced theatrical event. Travels with my Aunt plays at the Vertigo Theatre until April 6. Tickets start at $25 and can be purchased here.
