Notable Now Calgary: March 14, 2014

The Grand Budapest Hotel
Wes Anderson fans have been waiting in wild anticipation for months now for his latest film to hit theatres. The Grand Budapest Hotel will be out on Friday, March 14th and everyone is in for a treat. Anderson’s films always bring the promise of a star-studded cast, oddball humour and an original storyline. Grand Budapest follows the adventures of Gustave H (played by Ralph Fiennes), the infamous concierge of an upscale hotel who spends his free time befriending the lobby boy and romancing wealthy guests. This film also has appearances from Bill Murray, Willem Dafoe and Owen Wilson. For show times, click here.

PARKSHOW2014
The very fashionable 2014 PARKSHOW will be taking place at the NGA Golf Dome on March 15th (50 50th Avenue SW). Before the runway begins, guests will have a chance to mix and mingle amongst the exclusive pop-up shops and view the art installations on display. Audience members will get to see the latest in spring looks and trends from designers like EG Forge, Kazz Clothing, Bano eeMee, CAMP Brand Goods, LUXX and SUKA Clothing. Doors will open at 7pm and the fashion show will start at 9pm sharp.

St. Patrick’s Day
Nobody can resist going out for St. Patrick’s Day and celebrating with a green beer. Lucky for everyone, Calgary has no shortage of Irish pubs and restaurants. On March 17th, Ceilis Pubs will have live music, bagpipes and Irish music. You can also head to Molly Malone’s in Kensington for a rowdy party (1153 Kensington Crescent NW) or to James Joyce (114 8 Ave SW) where you’ll be served a full Irish menu with a pint of Guinness.

World Water Day
On Tuesday, March 18th, come out to observe World Water Day with the CAWST organization at the Devonian Gardens. This event is a great opportunity to learn more about water issues that we face both locally and internationally. CAWST is a Calgary-based charity that has helped improve living conditions for over seven million people worldwide by offering clean water. This event is free and runs from 4:30pm to 7pm. The Devonian Gardens can be found on the top floor of the CORE shopping on Stephen Avenue.

Bourbon Party, Anyone?
Let’s see a show of hands for people that like drinking stiff, well-made, artisan cocktails. And let’s see another show of hands for people who are looking for a different way to spend their Thursday night. Giselle
The Alberta Ballet presents Giselle, which is considered to be one of the most romantic ballets ever performed. If you enjoyed Swan Lake, you won’t want to miss this fantastic performance.
