Now Open: Avec Bistro
Foodies rejoiced for the recently opened Avec Bistro (105-550 11th Ave SW). Combining a passion for great wine and simply prepared but locally sourced cuisine, they bring classic French fare to Calgary diners. Open for both lunch and dinner seven days a week, the dining room is chic enough for an evening date or client meetings, yet perfect for lunch. With a grilled asparagus and king oyster mushroom salad and staples like steak frites or the duck confit, something tells us that the 66 seats here will fill up fast. 

Underwear Affair – June 2
Join Alberta Cancer Foundation’s Underwear Affair, a 10 km and 5 km run raising money for below-the-waist cancers like prostate, ovarian, and colorectal. The race starts and finishes at Max Bell Centre (1001 Barlow Trail SE). Afterward, stick around post-race for the EXPOsed after party where you can dance the night away to local DJs, check out booths and vendors, enjoy giveaways, food, and beverages, and celebrate alongside the winners for best costumes, top fundraisers and fastest runners. 

Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra presents the Best of ABBA + After Party – June 1 & 2
Catch Finland’s superstars, Rajaton, rock the Jack Singer concert hall (205 8 Ave SE) with your favourite ABBA hits – Dancing Queen, Fernando, Mamma Mia and more. This six-voice acappella ensemble exposes audiences to the kind of diversity of repertoire, singing style, and stage presentation that has made them a phenomenon on the world stage. Hustle over to Teatro Ristorante (200 8 Ave SE) after the concert for the last After Party of the season.

SODO Block Party – June 2
For those of you who love finer things head to the SoDo district (10 and 11 Ave from 5 St to 8 St SW) for the SODO Block Party. Check out the diverse shops galleries, bakeries, salons and spas, fine wine purveyors, and restaurants of this dynamic neighborhood. Throughout the day there will be specials offers and notable events taking place. 

FunnyFest – June 1 – 3
Everyone loves to laugh, so get ready to enjoy the antics and punch lines of hilariously funny performers at FunnyFest Calgary Comedy Festival. Kicking off this weekend, the 11 day (May 31-June 12) festival showcases 70 performers from around the world. 14th Annual Fairy Tales Queer Film Festival CLOSING GLAM ROCK PARTY GALA – June 2
Want to celebrate The Fairy Tales International Queer Diversity Film Festival, Calgary’s second biggest film festival? The final film will be screened at the Plaza Theatre  (1133 Kensington Road NW) Saturday evening with the GLAM ROCK Party Gala occurring after the screening just down the street at Good Life Community Bike Shop (148 10 Street NW), celebrating local and national queer artists of all artistic mediums including but not limited to film. Fairy Tales is dedicated to all who see “queer as a vista, a way of looking at the world differently – with an eye towards diversity, criticality and inclusion.”
