Taste of Opera
On Friday, January 24th, the Arrata Opera House (located at 1315 7th Street SW) is hosting the event ‘A Taste of Opera’. For $20 you will have the amazing opportunity to preview what’s in store for Calgary Opera this year. Following the opera, there will be a sampling of local food and wine inspired by the region of the opera. You’ll be delighted to learn more about the great composer Richard Wagner and the play, The Flying Dutchman.

Kitchen (You’ve Never Had It So Good)
Have you ever wondered what went on in the factory of Andy Warhol? From January 24th to 26th, the ultra creative Gob Squad theatre company will entertain you as they try to recreate Warhol’s infamous studio that was made infamous during the counter culture of the 60s. Known for its many celebrities, artists and misfits of the day, the Factory played backdrop for many of Warhol’s films that had no real actors and no rehearsed lines. The Gob Squad will deliver an interesting performance as they re-enact scenes from Warhol’s classic film ‘Kitchen’. Who knows what will happen! All the fun takes place at the #1 Royal Canadian Legion.

Walrus Talks Tomorrow
The Walrus Talks is an organization known for starting thought-provoking conversations on topics that are of great importance to Canadians. Come and hear what some of the brightest minds and opinion leaders have to say about the topic of  ‘Tomorrow’. You’ll hear from a group of award-winning authors, popular TV personalities and brilliant mobile app developers. Don’t miss Les Stroud from Survivorman and Shad. Tickets are now on sale for $25. This event starts at 7pm on January 28th at Jack Singer Concert Hall. 403-294-9494.

Josh Ritter
On Wednesday, January 29th, Josh Ritter is playing at Knox United Church (506 4th Street SW). Well-known for playing with the Royal City Band, Ritter embodies the same narrative talent of Bob Dylan and Johnny Cash. Ritter has recorded seven studio albums, including the most recent one, ‘The Beast in its Track’. He was first noticed when one of his tracks was picked up by the HBO series ‘Six Feet Under’. Tickets are $46 and show begins at 8pm. 

Air Miles Dinner
On January 30th, Market Restaurant is hosting a dinner for Air Miles cardholders. Chef Dave Bohati will be whipping up five courses, each focusing on a different sense – sight, taste, touch, sound and smell. To finish off this interesting meal, there will be a sixth course served to enjoy with all your senses. To purchase tickets, you can use the Air Miles website. Tickets are $150 or 1375 Air Miles. (Rewards). Dinner starts at 7pm.

Schmancy Style
It’s time to get fancy for the Schmancy Style show, which is taking place at Belgo Brasserie (501 8th Ave SW) on January 30th. In anticipation of the annual Schmancy Gala happening at the Glenbow on February 22nd, Belgo is offering a glamorous night of fashion inspiration to ensure guests attending the gala know what to wear. This year the Schmancy theme takes it’s queue from the Glenbow’s winter exhibition: Worn to be Wild: The Black Leather Jacket. Tickets are $35.
