Andy Warhol: The Athlete Series – Opening Reception
January 12

Love Andy Warhol? MOCA (Museum of Contemporary Art Calgary), 800 Macleod Trail SE, presents the Athlete Series, with an opening reception. Comprised of 10 Warhol paintings, it features portraits of Muhammed Ali, O.J. Simpson, and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, just to name a few. View the art first-hand and enjoy the numerous entertaining events associated with the opening, including live music, YYC Food Trucks, and a pop-up cocktail bar. RSVP required. 

Mountain of Food Festival
January 12

Head to Webber Academy Performing Arts Centre (1515 93 St SW) for the Mountain of Food Festival. Hosted by local musicians Brent Tyler and Kirby Sewell, this is an afternoon of live music in support of the Calgary Food Bank. Bring a case of non-perishable food items to help build a mountain.

Second Annual MS Whisky Festival
January 17

For the whisky aficionado, and those who just love this brown spirit, head to the Epcore Centre (205 8 Ave SE) for an evening of whisky tasting, art, and music in support of those affected by multiple sclerosis (MS). Taste whiskies from around the world, meet distillery representatives, and help raise funds for services in the community for those affected by MS. (Tickets $95)

Ballroom with a Twist –The Dance Extravaganza
January 11 + 12

Do you love shows such as Dancing with the Stars, So You Think You Can Dance and American Idol? As part of the POP Series, the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra (CPO) presents this exciting and unique event. Watch dancers from these hit series take to the stage as they are serenaded by American Idol finalists and of course the CPO.

The Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour

For the outdoorsy type, this international film competition brings you a variety of short films and documentaries about mountain culture, sports, and environment. Now in its 33rd year, this is the perfect opportunity to see some of the best and most exciting films from the sold out 2012 Banff Mountain Film Festival, which took place in Banff in October.
