Best of The 2013 Banff Mountain Film Festival
If you didn’t get a chance to check out the 2013 Banff Mountain Film Festival, this is your last chance to check it out! The “best of” screenings are taking place at the John Dutton Theatre inside the Calgary Public Library. Each program includes eight of the top films from the festival. From ice climbing in Antarctica to biking in the Austrian Alps, these films are sure to entertain with tales of adventure and the beautiful scenery of the great outdoors. You can check it out Feb. 7th and 8th at 7:30pm. Or if matinees are more your thing, you can check it out Saturday Feb. 8th at 3:00pm. Tickets range from $15-$24 and they are available online.
50 Shades of Red
With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, this red wine tasting might be just what you need to pick out that perfect bottle for your romantic evening. On Feb 12th from 6:30-8:30pm, Metrovino will be hosting this love affair-inspired red wine tasting. Although you won’t be sampling all 50 shades, they will have six varieties of red along with cheese, charcuterie and chocolate for your tasting pleasure. Tickets are $60 and are available online.
Acclaimed as the greatest love story of all time, this Broadway sensation is playing daily from Feb 11-16th at the Jubilee Auditorium – 1415 14th Avenue NW. This new cast recently won the 2010 Grammy Award for the best musical show album, with top singles such as ‘Tonight’ and ‘I Feel Pretty’. This is one musical you do not want to miss! It’s been a lon,g cold winter, but that’s no reason to stay inside. Winterpalooza kicks off Feb 12th and runs till the 17th. This winter bike festival uses informal winter bike events such as bike tobogganing and ice races to get the community engaged and out biking no matter the season. Don’t miss the Winter Biking Photo Booth that will be set up on the south Bow River pathway February 12th, or sign yourself up for the international winter bike to work day on Feb. 14th. The Birkenstock Ball
Kick off a year of celebrations for the Calgary Folk Festival’s 35th anniversary. The first annual Birkenstock Ball takes place Feb. 8th at 7pm. This event features live music by Compadres and Wil, and all proceeds support Folk U – The Calgary Folk Music Festival’s youth programming.
