Duy Nguyen was one of eight finalists chosen by industry experts for the Mercedes Benz start-up competition in October 2012. Once he was crowned as the winner of the competition, Duy got right back to work to prepare for his runway debut at Toronto’s World MasterCard Fashion Week this past March. We got a chance to catch up with the promising designer after his show to talk a bit about his inspiration, the industry as a whole and what we can expect from him in the near future.
Duy’s inspiration for this collection was the harsh Canadian winter and the ever-so-captivating Ice Queen from Narnia. You can see that his end product stays true to his concept and inspiration as made evident by the use of fur and varying shades of white and grey. Everything from the clothing, hair and makeup emphasized the dramatic aesthetic that we look forward to seeing in any DUY collection.
