Notable Event Recap: KNOWSHOW

As always, the KNOWSHOW serves as a great way for invited media, fashion insiders and trendsetters to score both wardrobe inspiration and a peek at what’s in store for style in forthcoming seasons.

We love the laidback approach to KNOWSHOW’s collection of urban-esque outfitters and designers, taking the massive space that is The Vancouver Convention Centre and somehow creating an oasis of cool and unique micro-sized pop-up ‘shops’ for use to peruse. And peruse we did indeed; with hundreds of vendors and designers on-site, there was no end to trends.

On our Notable style radar was (fairly) newcomer Canadian urban sportswear creator FIG, Dblanc (the ever-so-stylish Italian eyewear designer) and Pull-In (underwear in un-conventional prints that’ll make you want to take your pants off a lot more).

Not all shop talk, the KNOWSHOW doubles as a great venue to catch up with industry friends and fashion-forward types minus any runway pretense. On site, Pabst Blue was readily available to fuel the fun (just in time for cocktail hour no less), and DJ beats helped create a party-like atmosphere.

Helping to up the ante of said atmosphere was US artist Don Pendleton, well known for his streetwear, graphic arts and for the latest album cover for Pearl Jam. He worked centre stage to create a unique live installation while we watched in awe.  Coincidentally, it’s his artwork that covers the latest copy of the show’s in-house publication “Knowmag,” which we found in our swag bags.

Aside from local favourites such as Lifetime Collective, BB Dakota, Gentle Fawn and Herschel, we spotted plenty of additional noteworthy trends to look for in Fall 2014 – Swedish slickers to keep you dry from Stutterheim and Tretorn (the classic Swedish tennis shoe and boot company), who’ve transitioned their looks to include rain boots. Finally, on our wish list for keeping cozy and stylish in the Fall, were authentic Canadian Aboriginal mukluks and moccasins from Manitoba Mukluks

We better start counting our pennies pronto. Oh wait, make that dimes…
