Notable Eats at Dockside Restaurant

We’re always up for an impromptu excuse to get down to Granville Island for a bit of a culinary adventure, be it a day spent cruising around the marketplace, exploring the (many) local artisan shops and galleries, pub-hopping or finding a cozy resto-lounge for some quality unwind time. So when we had the opportunity to stop by the latest menu reveal at Dockside Restaurant at the Granville Island Hotel, let’s just say we happily cleared our schedule.

Having undergone a pretty extensive renovation a few years ago, and even more recently a full patio re-dux, the Dockside is looking more than appealing these days. With full restaurant seating, a separate lounge area and ample (read: huge) patio space, this is definitely one of Vancouver’s hidden gems. Located right on False Creek, there is plenty of waterfront action to take in and it’s easily accessed via water taxi, bike/foot or car.

Stylish décor leads you into a sleek, casual oasis reminiscent of various LA hot spots with a twist of West Coast Vancouver-style charm. The patio offers up seating for an additional 100 patrons (with fireplaces, cocktail stations, cozy couches and lounge-style seating available). And then there were the delectable bites we sampled from their new seasonal menu courtesy of Chef Simon James McNeil…

Dockside pulled all the stops for a special media preview ‘teaser’ and used it as an opportunity to showcase the majority of the items featured on their new spring/summer menu.

With a decidedly local feel to many of Dockside’s new dishes, Chef Simon talked extensively about the establishment’s philosophy on menu design, direction and the quest to feature sustainable, local foods (while managing the demands of summer crowds and the city’s discerning diners).

Dish after dish was generously served (accompanied by BC VQA wines, cocktails, craft-brewed beer and more). We sampled Salmon Gravlax, almond brie Fritters, roasted tomato served alongside melted goat cheese and mini servings of prime rib.

Oh, and we were smart enough to save room for a sampling of Dockside’s new dessert treats. We’re talking serious throwback: watermelon floats, made with vanilla ice cream, blended melon and garnished with a macaron. Pure deliciousness; enough said.
