Notable Canada Day Activities in Montreal

Canada Day is just around the corner and Montreal is filled with plenty of fun and free events around the city. Let’s get started….

The Montreal Canada Day Parade is always a big hit. Around since 1977, it takes place on downtown’s busiest street, St.Catherine. After the parade, you can enjoy free food and live entertainment at Place du Canada. A great starter to the day for everyone.

Old Montreal is host to one of the most popular series of events taking place right at the quays of the Old Port. Fireworks, extreme sports demos, acrobatic ski jumping, line dancing, a yoga fest and a multitude of other activities will be happening. The kicker? This year, the O Canada Foundation will be on hand to set the world record for the number of people singing a national anthem at the same time in several cities. The festivities begin at 10am and go all day long.

The Beach Club is Montreal’s answer to as tropical of a club as we can get out here. Located in Pointe Calumet, Sander Van Doorn will be gracing us with his DJ skills while bikini-clad crowds party it up in the sand. You can make your way down earlier in the day to enjoy their terrace with a pool, beach volleyball, wake boarding, kayaking or just to laze around with your friends.

The Montreal Jazz Festival continues into Canada Day offering some musically delicious free shows throughout the day. Our pick is “Boogat,” an elite artist from Montreal that fuses hip-hop, dancehall, dubstep and world music into one mish mash of greatness. The show takes place at the Bell Scene at 10pm sharp. Stick around after – there’s always great music spinning and a fun crowd carrying on the festivities.

For all you car aficionados, the 16th annual Gala D’Elegance is taking place in the borough of Beauport in Quebec City. Always a popular choice, around 15,000 visitors are expected this time around to enjoy over 1200 antique cars in an enchanting setting. Besides the exhibit, there will be outdoor shows and a flea market for the bargain hunter in you.

Last but not least, for some good old folk, rock and blues tunes, check out the Barr Brothers as part of the High Light Festival. After a sold-out concert in La Tulipe and an opening slot for Ben Harper, these guys are a huge crowd favourite and full of true authenticity. Playing the Metropolis, this promises to be a great show.
