Nobody Puts Baby in a Photo: Anne Hathaway Denies Paparazzi, Uses Instagram

There’s been speculation for months that Oscar-winning actress Anne Hathaway is pregnant.

Yet, nobody has managed to get that coveted baby bump shot.

So when a visibly pregnant Hathaway noticed the paparazzi lurking in the shadows of the Hawaiian beach where she and hubby Adam Shulman were vacationing over the weekend, she decided to do something bold.

Beating the paps to the punch (AKA the money shot), she decided to snap and post her own bikini-clad shot to confirm to the world that she is indeed expecting a baby. Showing off her baby bump in a red bikini, Hathaway took to Instagram to tell her fans that she’d rather them see an image that “makes her happy” and that she can control, right down to the filter, as opposed to an unsolicited paparazzi shot of her on vacation.

“Happy 2016 to my beautiful Instafriends! So, posting a bikini pic is a little out of character for me, but just now while I was at the beach I noticed I was being photographed,” she writes in the caption accompanying the photo. “I figure if this kind of photo is going to be out in the world it should at least be an image that makes me happy (and be one that was taken with my consent. And with a filter :). Wishing you love, light and blessings for the year ahead! Annie.”

In taking this stand, Hathaway sends a strong message to the paparazzi and highlights one of the major issues with celebrity culture; the ever-invasive paparazzi. The good news is that Instagram has offered a tool for celebrities to share their (albeit curated) life with their fans before the tabloids can. Another recent example of this was the outing of Justin Beiber’s new relationship with model Hailey Baldwin over the holidays via both of their colourful Instagram accounts.

It remains a little sad, however, that it even came to the point that Hathaway felt the need to share the news before she may have been ready to.

Either way, Hathaway can at least rest assured (on a fabulous beach, no less) that she – and her future baby – have a widespread support network. So far, the photo has been “liked” 220k times.
