New York Times Names Canada the Top Place to Explore in 2017

No surprise, really, but it’s still nice to hear it: We’re #1.

The New York Times has named Canada the world’s most intriguing travel destination for 2017 in its annual ‘52 Places to Go‘ ranking.

The piece highlights our “cosmopolitan cities, barely explored natural wonders and everything in between,” all of which is made especially attractive by a favourable exchange rate. Oh, and a little something called Canada’s 150th birthday.

Ottawa’s year-long birthday celebration gets a shoutout, as do the more than 200 national parks and historic sites that are waiving admission fees this year.

“A northern neighbo[u]r is a world to explore,” writes the the New York Times, which named Toronto in the seven spot on the same list last year. “Canada is rolling out the welcome mat.”

We can’t wait to host you – just don’t forget to go home.
