Every young professional looks forward to the start of a new year. It’s the time to start a new chapter and improve yourself, but when it comes to fresh beauty regimes, we never seem to be able to keep them alive. Here are our top 10 realistic New Year’s beauty resolutions for every YP woman.
1. Wash your make-up brushes
Blocked pores and a dull complexion can be the result of neglected makeup brushes. Your makeup brushes collect dirt, oils and bacteria over time and ideally should be washed every couple of weeks. Either purchase a brush cleaner or a sulfate-free shampoo to lather up your cosmetic tools.
Not only do facial and body moisturizers treat and prevent dry skin, but they also protect your it from the environment by creating a barrier to prevent oils from escaping and harsh elements from creeping in.
While you’re at it, why not protect your skin from the sun’s rays with an SPF facial moisturizer? The sun still emits harsh rays even in the winter, and you can wind up getting the worst skin damage at the most unexpected times. As women age today, many are noticing more predominant skin damage on the left side of their faces from driving. Remember that just because you are not sitting out in the sun does not mean you are not damaging your skin. Most importantly, don’t forget about your hands!
4. Try something different!
Now is the time to step out of your beauty comfort zone and try something different! Get that hairstyle you have always wanted, or try a more vibrant lip colour. Taking the time to give yourself a beauty boost increases confidence and self-esteem.
5. Recreate a sun-kissed look
Staying out of the sun doesn’t mean you have to look ghostly. There are many great spray-tanning systems that give full-body treatments to bronze and smooth your skin. They apply evenly and give you a healthy, natural look of sun-kissed skin.
If you wish for the bronzed glow but want a more budget-friendly option, Life brand smooth bronze spray works wonders on your face, neck and chest. But beware, it can get streaky on your body. Jergen’s Natural Glow gradually creates a flawless, natural-looking colour for your body without the smell and without ruining your clothes after application. Whether you have an upcoming event or you just want glowing skin year-round, self-tanner is a safe way to achieve the look you want.
6. Give up diet drinks for water, coconut water or fresh juices
Diet drinks actually trick your body into thinking you are ingesting sugar and make your body crave more sugar, therefore causing you to gain weight. You should be getting at least eight glasses of water a day anyway, so who even has time for diet sodas?
7. Wash your face every night before bed
During the day, your face builds up oil, dirt, dead skin cells and bacteria, so even though the last thing you want to do before you hit the sack after a long day is wash your face, it is one of the most important things to allow your skin to renew itself.
8. Take vitamins
Chances are you are not getting enough vitamins with what you eat, so vitamins are essential to every woman’s body and life. A multivitamin contains your nutritional needs for a day, including vitamins A, B, C, D and E, but depending on each person’s body, diet and lifestyle, you may need additional vitamins.
Tip: If you have trouble swallowing vitamins, they make chewable or gummy vitamins for almost every one.
9. Keep your smile bright
To prevent stains from setting after your morning coffee or tea, keep a toothbrush at your desk and brush immediately after drinking.
10. Think positively
Your life will change drastically if you take a step back and maintain the balance in your daily existence with positive thinking. Like Buddha said, “Rule your mind or it will rule you.” If something doesn’t go your way, you are stuck in traffic after a long day at work, or someone does or says something to make you angry, forcing yourself to keep your mind calm and peaceful throughout testing times will change your life for the better. Once you master this technique, you will start to see an enormous change in your life, your relationships and even in your physical appearance. Thinking positively takes practice and patience, and “if you [maintain] good thoughts, they will shine out of your face like sun beams and you will always look lovely.” Thanks, Roald Dahl.
