New Restaurant The Ossington Stop Is Giving Away Free Food

The writing’s on the window.

Literally.

And while there’s a lot to love about The Ossington Stop (1164 Dundas St. W.), the small restaurant and bar that’s taken over The Arrow Cafe space just steps from Dundas & Ossington, we suspect that many of you will rejoice in those window words as much as anything.

$4 Beer. $4 Shots. Until 2am.

There simply aren’t many better deals than that in the city. Want a double shot? No problem, you’ll save yourself a dollar. But don’t think you’re getting mix with that – it’s two ounces of booze, straight up. Vodka, J.D., Jager, Jameson. End of story.

Owner William Tavares (of Fishbar) wanted to create a go-to for the grab-and-go crowd on the busy foodie strip – a fill-your-belly type of eatery. That’s not to say you can’t sit back and enjoy the hip bar’s food while you listen to the likes of Alanis Morissette (circa Jagged Little Pill) and Live (Throwing Copper) play just a little too loudly – and perhaps proudly – from the stereo. But knowing that you can pick up a shot or a 15oz pint while you wait for your Khinali dumpling will certainly attract the late-night crowd. (Pro tip: grab the dumpling by its ‘nob’, flip it over, bite in, and suck the juices out before they spill everywhere. No cutlery. Just make sure you’ve let it cool down first.)

Chef Denis Ganshonkov has filled The Ossington Stop’s menu with small comforts. Beyond the dumplings you’ll find a Russian steamed bun with pork n cabbage, mac n’ cheese, a chili hotdog option, a pulled pork sandwich, and soon-to-arrive home-style ribs, among other options.

In fact, tomorrow, Thursday, July 17th, they’ll be handing out those ribs FOR FREE, along with several other menu items. That’s right, from 12-5pm, you’ll be able to get a free sample size portion of most of The Ossington Stop’s menu.

So if you aren’t fully swayed by our recommendation, head over for lunch tomorrow and see for yourself. We have a feeling you won’t be disappointed.
