This year, Montreal is celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Commerce Design Montréal awards, a Montréal initiative whose success has inspired similar contests over the past decade in 14 different cities in Europe, Canada and the United States.
After hundreds of submissions, from stores to restaurants across the island of Montréal, the jury members go on a tour to visit and examine the submissions in person before deciding on the 20 winners that have been recently designed or redesigned with the help of a professional interior designer or architect.
This initiative has shown merchants, restaurant owners and the public the value that great design can add to a business and atmosphere. The quality of businesses, and the experiences they offer to customers and guests, has improved drastically since the contest launched.
