National Geographic Names Edmonton One of the World’s Top Summer Destinations. Wait, What?

Machu Picchu, Athens, Jeju Island, Edmonton.

We’re not sure if National Geographic was just trying to be avant-garde here, but Edmonton is apparently one of the world’s top 10 summer travel destinations.

It’s hard to downplay our suspicion considering Philly also made the cut.

Edmonton is the fourth Canadian location to be included among the annual ranking in the last two years – alongside British Columbia’s Great Bear Rainforest, Ontario’s cottage country and Cape Breton Island – and even has some locals perplexed at the designation.
But if you can ignore that Edmonton is only pleasant four months of the year – which Nat Geo obviously has the privilege of doing – it actually looks like a pretty decent place to spend a few summer days.

Praised for a festival-packed season ahead (including the FIFA Women’s World Cup and Edmonton Folk Music Festival), access to the stunning river valley, and eclectic Old Strathcona neighbourhood, Edmonton also boasts plentiful Vitamin D as one of the country’s sunniest cities.

The Metterra Hotel and North 53 were chosen as excellent hotel and dining options for your Alberta adventure, and you’ll also be among the first to experience life in Canada’s most revolutionary province.

Rest assured, Calgary doesn’t get it either.
