Young professional foodies rejoice, as the owners of Alloy Restaurant bring their global influence to the neighborhood of Mission with Candela (1919 4th Street SW).
The minute you walk into the room you can’t help but appreciate the décor. Designed by local design house McKinley Burkart, the space is eclectic while still remaining modern and classy. The space is open and comfortable with a beautiful central bar making it a great environment for sharing food, drinks and conversation. The tiled floor has a retro vibe and the whole room has you reminiscing about far off places such as the Mediterranean.
The menu features international cuisine with a unique spin. The style is tapas and share dishes, making it a great spot for getting together with friends for an evening. You share food, while you share company. We suggest trying the Albondigas – lamb-pork meatballs made with manchego cheese in a tomato sauce.
Candela also boasts a fantastic cocktail and wine list that has been designed to pair effortlessly with the food. If cocktails are what you are after, we think the Pura Vida (made with coconut milk, fresh mango, cantaloupe liqueur and cachaça) is worth ordering.
For the business crowd, Candela is a great option for a client lunch. Though they do not take reservations in the evenings, they do take them for lunch. Looking for something a little more private? Candela also has a great private room that can be utilized for a business lunch or a special occasion with friends.
Whether it’s lunch, dinner or late-night eats (Candela’s kitchen is open until midnight during the week and 1am on weekends), Candela is one of the hottest new spots in Calgary.
