Must Try: Yann Haute Patisserie

For the Young Professionals with a sweet tooth, Yann Haute Patisserie in the heart of Mission (329 23rd Ave SW) is the spot to satisfy those cravings. The Patisserie is hard to miss, so if you haven’t been just look for the bright yellow house. The minute you walk through the door you can’t help but think of all the wonderful patisseries dotted throughout France, and it makes sense why you may be dreaming of this. Owner and namesake Yann Blanchard is a professional pastry chef who grew up in his parent’s bakery/pastry shop until he left to study his passion in Paris. After 15 years of international experience working in shops, clubs, and hotels, Yann decided to open his own patisserie much to the delight of Calgarians.

The Patesserie has been in Mission for a couple of years, and in that time has developed a reputation as the place for macarons (two delicate almond based meringues with tasteful fillings). And as any macaron aficionado would attest, there are two things necessary for perfection of these little delicacies: flavour and texture, not too sweet and a nice, firm shell. The display case is made up of a colourful collection of jewel-toned treats with flavours such as pistachio, black current & violet, and salted caramel.

Perhaps what sets these little treats apart is that Yann only bakes with real ingredients so there are no preservatives, additives or artificial flavours. Yann Haute also offers much more. They have delectable Viennese pastries; think croissants and beignets, as well as fresh baked rustic breads.

For the YP hosting a party, Yann Haute also offers catering services. They provide a great selection of Petite Fours, another one of those French delicacies we can’t seem to live without. Yann is very talented at special occasion cakes and wedding cakes; pick the flavour(s) of your choice from their list of options and Yann can create a masterpiece that is not only delicious, but a work of art. For the non-traditional, consider a macaron tower.

To find out their hours of operation (in true French fashion, they take the time to relax and are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays) or to make an order check out their website, or follow them on Facebook or Twitter.
